Save the Date! UBM’s 45th Decoy Show
The Upper Bay Museum is proud to present the 45th Upper Shore Decoy Show on October 19th – 20th at the North East Fire Hall. As with much of the museum activity this season, the show has taken a rebirth and has much in store for this anniversary year. Chairman Rick Bouchelle wants this show to be memorable.
The decoy show will be open October 19th from 3-5pm with a Boat School Demonstration, following with the preview party and benefit auction. Saturday, the show will be open from 9-5 and has been packed with demonstrations and activities. Kid’s activities will be available all day including paint their own duck silhouette. Also, feel free to bring your unidentified decoys to our expert, Vernon Bryant Sr. Starting at 10:00 a.m. Honorary Chairman Frank Muller will be demonstrating how to make a canvas decoy which he is highly regarded for making. 12:00 P.M will be the Lockard & Blackduck Decoy Competition organized by Jack Manning. The rules are as follows:
• You may enter your decoy as early as 3:00 P.M. on Friday the 19th.
• Decoys will be judged for Best George or Henry Lockard decoy and the best Cecil County black duck decoy made before 1950.
• Prizes of Plaques & Ribbons will be awarded following the judging at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday the 20th.
Following the competition, Vernon Bryant Jr will be demonstrating how to complete a duck taxidermy mount at 2:00 P.M. Then the boat school will than demonstrate. Both the museum and boat school will be open special hours during the decoy show and volunteers will be available to give tours.
We have invited local vineyards and orchards for tastings and to sell their local made products. Please feel free to pass along this event, see the following links for more information:
Preview Party! You are all invited to join us for the benefit auction preview party October 19th at 6:00 P.M. in the North East Fire Hall. This will give patrons an exclusive look at the auction items before the auction. Featuring: Cheese & Fresh Fruit Display Fresh Seasonal Vegetable Tray with Dip, Scallops wrapped in Bacon, Crab Balls, Hot Crab Dip served with Crunchy Baguette, Raspberry & Brie in Phyllo, Stuffed Mushroom with our special sausage recipe, assorted desserts and wine, beer, soda. This event is featured for $15 a patron which includes weekend show admission – only $10 for Upper Bay Museum members. Limited tickets available, please contact Nichole B.
